The Island Map

The LOST Island. It's big and mysterious. Having an interest in maps, this is a project I wanted to undertake in order to create a comprehensive and attractive map of all the major locations and landmarks on The Island. My tools to help me reach this goal will be maps from the show, fan consensus, the always-helpful LOSTpedia, and plain old logic in the face of any inconsistencies.

  • Geography of the coastline: the North Shore
We never really saw much of the northern coast of The Island until season 5. Now we know that Rose and Bernard lived in a cabin near the beach in 1977, as well as the names of some notable geographical features. One prominent feature of the north coast is a navigable river that flows from a lagoon near the Barracks out to sea. This river is deep enough to accommodate the DHARMA submarine and does not contain any rapids or other obstacles which could impede the sub’s progress. This is in contrast with most of the other creeks and rivers seen on The Island, which appear to be shallow with fast-moving water flowing over rocks.
Given the fact that the area north of the Barracks is known as Pascal Flats, and the calm flow of the river, we can determine that there is very little elevation change in this area.
The long beach in the northeast is notable for being the location where Michael, Sawyer, and Jin came ashore early in season 2, and first encountered the tail section survivors.
