The Island Map

The LOST Island. It's big and mysterious. Having an interest in maps, this is a project I wanted to undertake in order to create a comprehensive and attractive map of all the major locations and landmarks on The Island. My tools to help me reach this goal will be maps from the show, fan consensus, the always-helpful LOSTpedia, and plain old logic in the face of any inconsistencies.

  • Geography of the coastline: from the crater to the Tempest
By adding a few topographical lines to the map, a clearer picture of the coastline starts to take shape. Now, these lines are just conjecture on my part - they don’t appear on any Island map, but they do help to show where the change in elevation is steeper, usually resulting in a rocky shore instead of a beach.
Just to the west of the Survivor’s beach, there is a second beach. I believe that this is the beach Sayid mentions when Hurley is looking for a place to take Libby on a picnic. Even further to the west, this is my best guess for the location of the cliff that Hurley and “Dave” visited.
To the north, the Tempest station is near the coast, but also high in the mountains. This is almost certainly an indicator that this area of the shoreline features a steep descent to the ocean, and would probably be quite rocky.
