Where the hell is Hydra Island?
Well, here we are. We finally have to deal with an Island location that seems to move around as much as Jacob’s cabin: Hydra Island.
The producers confirmed that they always intended Hydra Island to be one of the smaller islands on Rousseau’s map. According to the blast door map, it should therefore be located at position A.

But now we’re running into some discrepancies. Juliet and Sawyer have both stated that Hydra Island is about 2 miles offshore from the main Island. In this case, one of the atoll islands, like position B, would make more sense. This location also makes sense because it’s closer to the northern area of The Island, where the majority of the Others’ various Island activities take place.
Now, I know I said that we should disregard most of what Ben says about locations and distances, but I still want to include what he has to say about Hydra Island.
Ben describes the island as being about twice the size of Alcatraz. This would make it much smaller than any of the islands off the eastern coast of The Island. However, when Ajira 316 crashes on Hydra Island, it appears much larger than what Ben described. Later, he says that if you head due south from Hydra Island for one-half mile, you will come to the submarine dock in the lagoon. This is confusing and inaccurate for several reasons. First, it would indicate that Hydra Island is due north of the main Island, perhaps in position C. Based on the producers’ comments that Hydra Island must be one of the smaller islands already pictured on the map, this is impossible. Second, the submarine dock is several miles inland from the coast. So like I said, let’s just eliminate everything Ben said.
There are clues that seem to support both locations A and B. The blast door map and the appearance of Hydra Island when Ajira 316 crash-lands strongly suggest location A. However, when Kate and Sawyer appear on the beach after their escape from Hydra Island, they approach their camp from the west. While this is no guarantee of anything, it would seem to suggest that their return hike took them along the western coast of The Island, which would place their origin at location B.
Finally, when Frank and Sun leave Hydra Island in the canoe, it only takes them a few hours to reach the dock at the lagoon. If the Hydra were located at position A, the trip would’ve taken them more than a day, and they would’ve had to make multiple stops for rest and supplies. Based on this final piece of information, my best guess is that the Hydra is located on one of the atoll islands off The Island’s west coast.
